Curtains for a home in Crickhowell

This summer I was lucky enough to be asked to take on the job of creating all the soft furnishings for a beautiful renovation of a cottage from the 1800’s. The house, located near the river Usk in the picturesque town of Crickhowell benefits from arched windows and wending stairways that mean when making curtains there are more practicalities to consider but also more scope to make things look cosy and creative. The client also wanted Roman blinds and had an eye for interior design and bold colours, which worked really well, because even though its a welsh cottage the soft furnishings gave it a fresh feel and added texture to the history of the building. She wanted to bring in the feel of the surrounding countryside, so use soft tones and natural fabrics. Together we looked for linens with washed finishes and wanted the poles to echo the natural materials in the house, so we chose mostly wooden poles and antique brass finishes for the chains on the Roman blinds. For the headers on the curtains we went for single pleats to keep the overall aesthetic simple.
